"A NIGHT FOR THE KNIGHTS", HCA SECURES A HARD FOUGHT 3-0 VICTORY OVER UNIVERSITY CHRISTIAN: 9-0-1 Overall, 4-0 Southern Piedmont Athletic Association (SPAA)

HICKORY, NC- The Knights battled University Christian under the lights at the Soccer Field at The Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex on the campus of Lenoir Rhyne University Monday night. Just as the sun settled beyond the tree line it was all business for the Knights, showing tremendous effort and grit en route to a 3-0 victory. It was the Knights seventh shutout of the season in ten contests. For the season, the Knights have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 45-4. But the remaining schedule is what's important as the Knights look to secure a top seed(s) and receive a first and second round bye in the NCISAA playoffs in mid October.

Offensively the Knights saw three different players get in the scoring column. Striking first was junior forward Gabe Walker at the 17 minute mark who received an assist from sophomore Sawyer DelCharco. Next in line with the second score of the evening was junior Luke Ikerd at minute number 60 as Gabe Walker provided the assist. To give the Knights a little breathing room to secure the win freshman Garrison Mullis found the back of the net on a hustle assist by senior Tommy McGrath.

This game was all about hustle and effort for the Knights as everyone contributed quality minutes on the pitch. The Knights have a deep team this season and all players continue to play a key role in the teams success. Providing valuable minutes with solid play were junior Aiden Arnot, sophomores Spencer Burton and Sawyer DelCharco, freshmen Braden Whitford, Chase Collins, Wyatt King and Garrison Mullis.

The Knights Battle Ball, a HCA tradition that recognizes the player with he best effort, best attitude, etc, went to senior left back Thomas McEwan. It was clearly the senior's best overall performance of this season as the Barracudas from University Christian were stymied down the left side throughout the contest. Pressure defense, ball control and timely and accurate distribution of the ball were a hallmark of McEwan's performance throughout the contest.

This was a "night" for the "Knights" as family members joined for a pre and post game tailgate in the adjacent parking lot on the LR campus. Good fellowship and great food was had by the large crowd in attendance. A shout out to John and Tammy DelCharco for their oversight of the event and to all the other parents and family members that were on site working diligently to make sure a good time was had by all.

Next up for the Knights is a road contest at conference foe Victory Christian. Game time is set for 5:00 Thursday, September 21st.
