HCA EARNS 8-0 VICTORY OVER WOODLAWN: 12-0-1 Overall, 6-0 Southern Piedmont Athletic Association (SPAA)

HICKORY, NC- The Knights battled Woodlawn in an afternoon contest at Henry Fork Park field number four. The Knights are peaking at the right time and continuing to prepare for the NCISAA playoffs in mid October.

Senior Dixon O'hair got the ball rolling offensively for the Knights in minute thirteen on an assist by senior Tommy McGrath. Seven minutes later junior Gabe Walker blasted the ball to the back of the net off a direct kick from the right side. Twenty-three minutes in Braden Runyon scored off a throw in from junior Wil Lehman. Gabe Walker continued his mastery of the Woodlawn defense as he scored the next two goals for the Knights, the beneficiary of assists by Tommy McGrath and Dixon O'hair. O'hair went back to work quickly, scoring his second goal of the contest off an assist by Gabe Walker.  Closing out the scoring was freshman Braden Whitford who scored at the 65th and 70th minute marks with one assist coming by way of Gabe Walker and Braden Runyon providing the other. Whitford has stepped up his game over the last few contests and the results are evident.

All of this scoring by the Knights happened with Woodlawn not seeing much time on the Knights side of the pitch. For the game Woodlawn would not see much time on the offensive side of the field as the Knights defense once again proved to be too strong for their opponent. Defensively it was a total team effort and all players received significant minutes.

The Knights Battle Ball, a HCA tradition that recognizes the player with he best effort, best attitude, etc, went to senior forward Tommy McGrath. It was clearly the senior's best overall performance of this season as he has fully healed from midseason surgery that saw him miss four weeks of action. For the game, McGrath gave maximum effort and showed tremendous grit and determination, seemingly always in the right position and winning advantage over his defender. The senior also had two assists on the day.

Next up for the Knights is a home contest against conference foe Statesville Christian Academy on Thursday October 5th with a 4:00 start at henry Fork Park field four.
