At the NCISAA 2A State Championship meet, held October 27th at the WakeMed Soccer Park XC Course, the Hickory Christian Academy girls team capped off another successful season by earning their second-consecutive state title runner-up finish. With personal-record performances by four team members, HCA finished just ahead of defending champion Trinity Academy of Raleigh (149 - 154), and behind title-winner Davidson Day (108).
Running a personal-best time of 18:57, junior Cate Hata was the overall second-place finisher out of a field of 150 runners. Two HCA women earned All-State honors: Cate Hata; and freshman Alayna Stewart (10th, 20:24). In the men’s race, Hickory Christian finished in 4th-place out of a field of 23 teams, and just ahead of their crosstown rival University Christian (153 - 169). HCA was led by strong performances from freshman Ben Graham (13th out of 169 runners; 17:57) and sophomore Samuel Yount (16th; 18:02).
