The Knights hosted two-time defending 2A state champion Asheville Christian Academy at Conover YMCA and let's just say if you weren't able to make it out today you missed a good one. The game ended deadlocked 0-0 giving the Knights a 3-0-1 record. Fans packed the opposite sideline across the pitch from the teams, cheering loudly and right on top of the action. On behalf of the coaches and players we would like to say thank you to all in attendance.

Let's recap the action as it unfolded. A defensive battle was in play all game as neither team managed much of a consistent offensive threat. Credit an attacking defense and aggressive all around play on both sides of the ball. However, when Asheville or Hickory Christian formulated an attack all eyes were on the action, anticipating and hoping for a score. It would never materialize.

Coach Walker was pleased with the outcome; primarily effort, hustle and the ability to win the 50/50 balls during critical times of the contest. "I can live with the outcome. That was two evenly matched teams that battled to a tie", stated coach Josh Walker after the game.

Receiving the battle ball, a Hickory Christian tradition given to the player that exhibits the best effort, was Junior Keeper Owen Duncan. With Senior Keeper Tommy McGrath nursing an injured hand, Owen was called on the last couple games and stepped up big time, owning the position and making a game saving stop high in the goal in the 76th minute. For all of you infant soccer fans that means only 4 minutes left in the game.

Next game is away next Thursday against public school Hibriten.
