HICKORY, NC - October 15TH, 2019 – Hickory Christian moves ahead for round two of the 2A State Playoffs with a hard-fought victory @ Henry
Fork Park.

The Knights jumped out early on the attack as junior Wyatt King scored goal on an assist from sophomore Stephen Frye to take a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. The visiting Royals tied the score at 1-1. However, Junior Hugo Fournie supplied the Knights with their second goal of the contest at minute thirty, taking the advantage to 2-1. Burlington Christian would tie the game at minute thirty-four and it would remain 2-2 until the start of the second half.

The clock would run to minute sixty before another goal was scored. This time sophomore Braden Runyon, a monster on the pitch all evening, moved the Knights ahead on a successful penalty kick at minute sixty. The PK was awarded after junior Braden Whitford was fouled in the box after maneuvering his way towards goal. The PK by Runyon gave the Knights a 3-2 advantage, but the Royals came back to tie the score at 3-3. With twelve minutes remaining in the contest, both teams would fight hard in front of a large crowd of supporters, only to go scoreless and forcing overtime.

As the team’s captains met at midfield the game would proceed with 2-10-minute overtime periods. After a scoreless first overtime period, the Knights Dylan Morrison, a junior, blasted what was the winning goal in the final minute of the 2nd overtime period.
