Girls Middle School Basketball vs. North Hills Christian School
5.0 years ago | Eric Lail
Win: 27 - 19
The HCA Middle School Team WON the Conference Championship today against a very aggressive North Hills team 27-19!  This makes for Back to Back Conference Championships at the Middle School level for this group of girls.  As 6th graders, this group of 8th graders, went 14-0, and won the 5th and 6th grade Championship, so it makes for a 3-peat of sorts for this group, who went 38-3 over those 3 years together, and 41-4 (if you count the scrimmage games against public schools).  The 3 losses were all against much larger schools that are not in our division.  We are so proud of these girls, and over 1/2 of the team is able to return their 8th grade year (current 7th graders) next year to make another run at the conference.  This team has been undefeated in the conference for 3 years running!  All the praise goes to the LORD for the talents HE has given them.  Thanks to our great parents for their support, and to Greg McMurray for his help these past few years coaching / teaching.  It was truly our pleasure in leading and mentoring these girls.

Win: 30 - 9
HCA came out quickly against Hickory Day and never looked back. All players contributed great defense, and Ava Hartman led the way with numerous steals for breakaway layups. The Knights were still missing one of their starters, Sarah Oetting, due to the flu. The team hopes to have everyone back for the tournament next week.

Lose: 14 - 18
Still missing one of their starters due to injury, the MS Girls team worked very hard this week in practice by learning a new offensive and defensive strategy to slow down the talented Asheville Christian team they had faced the week earlier.  Although the final score wasn't in the Knights' favor, the team learned the most about the game this week versus all the other weeks combined.  Mia McGrath and Sarah Oetting had very strong defensive games, and the team led most of the first half.  With less than a minute in the game, the team continued to stop the clock, forcing Asheville to the line, and giving themselves chances to prevail.  The coaches told the team they more proud of the effort of this game than all the other games combined.

HCA ran into a well coached, and talented team in Asheville today. The team played hard defensively, grew mentally and physically.  The team showed a lot of heart after being down at the half, and played aggressively until the last buzzer sounded. The team will get some much needed rest and practice time before their next game. Proud of our Lady Knights!

Win: 44 - 8
The MS Girls remained undefeated without one of their starters, Olivia Lail, who is recovering from an injury. The team played sound defense, and the entire team saw much playing time.  The team will travel to Asheville Christian on Thursday for their next game.

Win: 36 - 9
The MS Lady Knights remained undefeated on the season at 8-0 after the game against North Hills. The team came out with HOT shooting and strong defense, making 3 pointers, layups, and blocking shots. Caleigh Beth McMurray and Olivia Lail were the high scorers in the game, with both contributing 13 points each. Sarah Oetting and Mia McGrath were the defensive specialists of the day, both garnering the SKITTLES (candy) awards for their aggressive defense. Lily Grace Alexander swished a 2 pointer, which shredded her French cobwebs (as she missed 3 games for a trip of a lifetime - Ha!). In total, it was our best team performance to date against a good North Hills Team.

Win: 25 - 12
This was a hard fought defensive game against cross-town school, Hickory Day.  The game was pretty close most of the way, until HCA started to pull away in the 3rd quarter.

The Knights MS girls got off to a fast start with strong defense and team play.  Everyone contributed the entire game, and at half, the score was 36-6.  All players scored in the game, and in the second half, the officials ran the clock continuously to speed up the game.  The Knights play a non-conference game on Thursday at HCA at 4:00.

Win: 36 - 23
This game was the first time this season that the MS girls were behind at halftime (13-18).  After a slow first half, the team went on a 13-0 run to start the 2nd half, and pull away from North Hills.
